About

Builder, operator, and strategic partner for what's next.

I help ambitious people and organizations turn complex situations into clear strategies, scalable systems, and profitable businesses.

Today I run Storyworlding, build my own ventures, advise founders and teams, and research what’s changing for New Industry, my newsletter.

Why my work crosses disciplines

I’ve rarely found the interesting problem sitting neatly inside one function. A marketing problem turns out to be a product problem. A new technology turns into a positioning question. A data problem turns out to be about how an organization makes decisions.

So I follow the problem instead of the job title. That’s how an English and Journalism graduate ended up leading product, running global digital operations, building companies, and now running research studies.

A few chapters

Most recent first. Storyworlding runs alongside everything below it.

    Founder, Storyworlding

My studio, and the home for larger team and company work. Strategy, growth systems, and ventures for clients including American Express, Univision, and LVMH brands.

  2. 2022 to 2024

Director of Digital Strategy and Operations, NielsenIQ

Global digital growth across 90+ countries and 180 products. Inbound leads grew 7x.

  3. 2016 to 2019

Head of Marketing and Product, Jobbatical

A talent marketplace across 46 countries, run from Estonia and Singapore. We partnered with the governments of Estonia, Malaysia, and Singapore on work and visa programs.

  4. 2012 to 2014

    Head of Product, niche

Architected and launched the platform for a creator network that reached $8M in revenue in 10 months. Later acquired by Twitter.

  5. 2009 to 2012

    Marketing Communications Lead, L2 Inc.

Third employee at the think tank later acquired by Gartner. My work with Scott Galloway led to my first Storyworlding client.

Where I’m most useful

  • When the problem crosses disciplines and no single team owns it.
  • When something important has changed, but the plan still assumes it hasn’t.
  • When strategy and execution have started drifting apart.
  • When a new technology creates an option that didn’t exist a year ago.

Outside of work

  • Sailing
  • Biking around New York
  • Calisthenics
  • Reading about quantum mechanics

How I got here

Storyworlding began with one client, who came through my work with Scott Galloway at L2, and it has run alongside every role since. The studio is where larger team and company work happens. This site is for my own work: ventures, research, speaking, and advising. I take on operating roles when a problem is worth stepping inside a company for.

The question underneath most of it started in school. I studied English and Journalism at UMass Amherst, summa cum laude, then designed an MA at NYU’s Gallatin School on how the internet shapes consumerism, community, and brand badging. I’m still working on versions of that question.

At UMass I also played NCAA Division I softball, earned ESPN Academic All-American honors twice, and was named Senior Athlete of the Year. I later coached as an assistant at Columbia University and Fairleigh Dickinson University. I learned a lot about teams on a field before I learned it in an office.

What I’m working on now

I’m researching how technology, business, culture, cities, and markets are changing. The current study asks what AI models think luxury is. The method comes from years of helping run a science-based SEO community, where we tested ranking factors instead of guessing at them. I still work on SEO and marketing that way.
